Midweek Meditation
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Dear Friends,
I’d like to rephrase this scripture in more contemporary words: If God is your co-pilot – slide over. You are sitting in the wrong seat. I don’t remember where I first saw this, though I think it was a bumper sticker. It hits home for us in several ways; it speaks to our attempt to live a faithful life and yet at the same time do it on our own terms as we struggle with letting go of the illusion and need to feel in control. It reminds us that we need to rely on God for even the simplest things and it tells us that we do not see the bigger plan that God has for our lives and the lives of those we love.
I cannot claim to understand where God is in the pandemic, though a couple things have occurred; we celebrated Easter even without a building, many people are ‘attending’ multiple services each Sunday, we are learning how important it is to keep in touch, and probably most importantly, we are reminded that neither we nor any other human being is truly in control.
So please focus less on what we can’t do: can’t meet, can’t shop, can’t work, can’t …..Find the good and praise God for it.
If you have a prayer request, if you need food delivered, if you want a willing ear, don’t be afraid to reach out. Call me or another member of the congregation. We are in this together because together we are God’s church, alive and well.
