Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.For darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will appear over you.   Isaiah 60:1-2

This is a time when so many of us write (or rewrite) lists of things we want to change or fix during the coming year. Unfortunately, the good intentions can go bad faster than the leftover New Year’s Day pork and sauerkraut. So, instead of vowing to fix individual aspects in our life (or even worse, the lives of those around us who may or may not want to be fixed), let’s all say a prayer for willingness to live God’s will for our life.

If we could each hear the Lord, asking us to “be still and know” him; if we would each take to heart the admonition to “love our neighbor as ourselves”; and if we would all remember that what is required of us is “to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with our God”, then we wouldn’t need lists. We wouldn’t need social workers or food pantries and we would be a huge step closer to the kingdom on Earth.

This past year was rough in so many ways but it held seeds of hope. While so many things changed, God remained constant. Let’s all make just one resolution – to walk truly aware of God’s Grace in our life this year. Let us live as God’s faithful children.

May 2021 be a safe, prosperous and grace-filled year for you and your family.
