Midweek meditation
“Do whatever he tells you.” John 2:5The wedding at Cana has been in my thoughts recently. With two wedding this week, one of them my son’s, it’s no surprise.
Planning for a wedding can be stressful and it just seems to send even some levelheaded people slightly crazy. Trying to get all the details correct and planning for all eventualities will overwhelm some couples (and some parents) for months or even years. And the problem with that level of focus is that something still, inevitably goes wrong.
A wedding should be a time of celebrating the wonderful thing God is doing, not crying over flowers that are orange instead of yellow or the groomsman who forgot his black socks. Things outside our plan don’t have to ruin anything. We can focus on what is wrong or on the love that binds together two people, brought together by God’s hand.
And this applies to all of us in all areas of life also. If we have a relationship with Christ, he can heal our hurts and always offers us an alternative far superior to anything we had ever imagined. In Cana, Jesus turned water into wine for a wedding celebration. And He is ready for us no matter how big our troubles.
When your jars are empty, do you have Jesus in your life to turn to? Will you “do whatever he tells you”?
